DPF: effective emission reduction for diesel engines

Many modern vehicles with diesel engines nowadays have a DPF fitted. This is to prevent harmful soot particles from entering our environment. A good thing, of course, but sometimes it leads to problems. The DPF can clog up due to various causes. The main ones are:

  • ash build-up over a very long period of use
  • soot because the engine emits a lot of soot, due to poor combustion, for example
  • soot as operating conditions block regeneration

Each of these situations needs a specific approach besides the particulate filter needing to be thoroughly cleaned. Only if the particulate filter itself has failed is replacement with a new or replacement particulate filter necessary. Installing, cleaning, replacing and providing solutions in case of exhaust gas aftertreatment system failures is becoming increasingly important.

To ensure proper operation, it is very important to carefully follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions. Naturally, prior to installation, any cause of soot filter failure should be eliminated.
